Early Fall?

I know it sounds downright crazy to say this while it’s still pushing 90 degrees outside, but do y’all think we might be in for an early fall?

I’ve been spotting little clues for a couple of weeks now. First came that stretch of steady rain—the temps dropped so much I actually pulled out a hoodie. In August! That’s unheard of in the Sandhills.

And it’s not just the cool snap. The mosquitoes have backed off, mushrooms are sprouting everywhere, and the biggest sign of all? The leaves are already streaked with red. Nature’s dropping hints—and I’m paying attention.

Poor Brandon has noticed it too. His sinuses have been giving him a fit for a week, and I finally convinced him to let me schedule a doctor’s appointment this morning. I have a feeling he’s battling a sinus infection.

Beyond the sniffles, I’m hoping for an early fall.

All the travel this summer was amazing, and we made so many wonderful memories—but I am exhausted. Summers are for being on the go. But autumn? It’s all about slowing down. Now, I’m craving early sunsets, the soft glow of candlelight, and cozying up under wool blankets with a steaming mug of apple cider in hand.

So I’m not mourning the passing of summer this year. Quite the contrary. Bring it on, fall. I’m ready!

Hey there! I’m Cassie Clark, a Carolina girl who grew up in two towns on opposite sides of North Carolina. My family has lived here for 8 generations, so my love for my home state is something I got honest. I’m passionate about sharing all the things that make North Carolina living so sweet – the history, the great outdoors, the culture, and the laidback lifestyle. That’s what Where the Dogwood Blooms is all about. It’s my love song to life in the Old North State; an ode to sunshine & hurricanes.
