Meet Cassie

Hey there! I’m Cassie Clark, a Carolina girl who grew up in two towns on opposite sides of North Carolina. My family has lived here for 8 generations, so my love for my home state is something I got honest. I’m passionate about sharing all the things that make North Carolina living so sweet – the history, the great outdoors, the culture, and the laidback lifestyle. That’s what Where the Dogwood Blooms is all about. It’s my love song to life in the Old North State; an ode to sunshine & hurricanes.

On the border of Burke & Caldwell counties stands On the border of Burke & Caldwell counties stands a low-lying ridge called Brown Mountain.

The mountain is famous for the unexplained lights that dance over the area.

Through the years, many have tried to explain the phenomenon. Ghosts, headlights, and fires have been named as the cause. The popular theory today is lightning.

I saw the lights as a little girl. I’m not sure they can be explained.

If you want to see them for yourself, the best viewing spot is Brown Mountain Overlook from September through November. 😉

Until elk were reintroduced to the Great Smoky Mou Until elk were reintroduced to the Great Smoky Mountains in 2001, white-tailed deer were the only species of deer found in North Carolina.

In the early 1900s, deer populations in NC dwindled down to a mere 10,000. Thanks to the conservation efforts made between the 1940s and 1970s, today there are a million deer in the Old North State.

They are the prevalent deer species in our state & can be found in all 100 counties. 💫
