Wiregrass In North Carolina

Wiregrass in North Carolina

I’ve often wondered why the “Wiregrass Region” runs through Florida, Alabama, and Georgia, totally neglecting the Carolinas. Wiregrass is prolific here in North Carolina, where it’s a vital understory plant in our longleaf pine savannas. We have seven of these savannas (if you count the newest addition to our state park system, Carvers Creek State Park). More than any other state. Shouldn’t that mean North Carolina isn’t just in the region, but is at the very heart of it?

P.S. Guess what blog got named one of the Top 80 North Carolina Blogs?? That’s right! Where the Dogwood Blooms came in at #34!

Hey there! I’m Cassie Clark, a Carolina girl who grew up in two towns on opposite sides of North Carolina. My family has lived here for 8 generations, so my love for my home state is something I got honest. I’m passionate about sharing all the things that make North Carolina living so sweet – the history, the great outdoors, the culture, and the laidback lifestyle. That’s what Where the Dogwood Blooms is all about. It’s my love song to life in the Old North State; an ode to sunshine & hurricanes.
