Stop and Smell the Roses

Stop and Smell the Roses: Fayetteville Rose Garden

These last six weeks have kept me running around like a chicken with its head cut off. Mother’s Day, Brandon’s birthday, Bug’s graduation, my birthday, and Father’s Day hit me back to back. When I wasn’t hosting a celebration – I was preparing for the next. Lawd, there hasn’t even been time to stop and smell the roses.

Feeling burnt out from all the hoopla, I decided to make some time for the roses this past weekend. So while running some errands, I took a little side trip over to the Fayetteville Rose Garden.

In 1972, the Fayetteville Rose Society, the city of Fayetteville, and Fayetteville Technical Community College joined forces to bring a rose garden designed by Augusta Knight to life. FTCC donated the site, and the rose society contributed 240 plants to the effort.

The tri-organizational partnership continues today, helping keep the garden both beautiful and healthy. Thanks to their efforts, the Fayetteville Rose Garden celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 10th. Today it contains almost 1,000 rose bushes in multiple varieties. Some of them are original plantings.

Visiting the Fayetteville Rose Garden

The next time you’re in Fayetteville and need to stop and smell the roses, you can find the Fayetteville Rose Garden at 2201 Hull Street. The garden includes roses of various varieties, a gazebo, and a fountain.

The garden is in bloom from April until the first winter’s frost. It is always open to the public, and admission is free.

Hey there! I’m Cassie Clark, a Carolina girl who grew up in two towns on opposite sides of North Carolina. My family has lived here for 8 generations, so my love for my home state is something I got honest. I’m passionate about sharing all the things that make North Carolina living so sweet – the history, the great outdoors, the culture, and the laidback lifestyle. That’s what Where the Dogwood Blooms is all about. It’s my love song to life in the Old North State; an ode to sunshine & hurricanes.
