There’s a noticeable chill in the air this morning; fall is creeping in. I’m cuddled up in a blanket, watching dawn break over the patio. This might be my favorite time of year in Eastern North Carolina.
Everything slows to a crawl in autumn. The sun rises a little later and goes down a little earlier. Tourists have gone home for the rest of the year. Kids are back in school. It’s quiet.
The silence is delicious.
The older I get, the more I appreciate this time of year – and the extra time on my hands.
Autumn is the season of movie nights, hiking, board games, and curling up with a book. It’s also time to start those projects there wasn’t time for over the summer.
We started working on the backyard and prepping for the new garden last weekend. Next fall, we will harvest the fruits of our labor. I look forward to soups and slow-roasted recipes made from fresh ingredients.
Outside of working in the garden, I plan to relax this fall. I want to keep things as cozy as possible. Sweaters, fire pits, and scented candles. That’s what I want. And after the trauma and stress of this summer, I feel like I deserve a little extra comfort.
Are y’all ready for fall, too?
I’m so ready for it!! Glad you are enjoying the cooler temps too : )
I can’t wait to break out sweaters. It’ll be another few weeks, but it’s coming! 🙂
Yes indeed! The earth is warm
from summer and everything seems mellow!
Exactly! It’s darn near perfect. 🙂
My favorite is the fire pit….guess I’m a pyromaniac at heart.
Me too! I’m a sucker for a fire pit. Some of my favorite memories were made sitting around a fire with my loved ones. <3
